Close your account and data

Learn how to request account closure or personal-data deletion and what to do before contacting YWT support.

Close your account and data

Account deletion is support-driven. There is no self-service button in the YWT account UI for closing an account.

To request account closure or personal-data deletion, contact:

support@ywt.ch

Before you request closure

Account closure may be blocked or delayed while you still have active services, unpaid orders, or legal retention requirements.

Before contacting support, review:

  • Domains — Transfer important domains away, let unused domains expire safely, or ask support about options for active domains.
  • DNS — Move DNS records to another provider if your domains will stop using YWT nameservers.
  • Static sites — Download or copy site files you still need, delete unused sites, and disconnect custom domains.
  • Hosting subscriptions — Cancel paid hosting if you no longer need it.
  • Orders and invoices — Download invoices or receipts you need for accounting.
  • Account access — Make sure you can receive email at the account address so support can verify the request.

Do not close an account that still controls a production domain, DNS zone, website, or payment issue until you have moved or resolved those services.

Data retention

YWT's Privacy Policy describes data retention by data type. The public policy currently states:

Data typeRetention summary
Domain registration dataKept while the domain is active.
Billing and accounting recordsKept for 10 years where required under Swiss law.
Service logsNormally kept up to 90 days, longer where needed for fraud or security handling.
Account dataKept until account deletion unless retention is required by law.

See the Privacy Policy for the full legal wording.

What to include in your request

When you contact support, include:

  • the account email address
  • whether you want account closure, personal-data deletion, or both
  • any domains that should remain active or be transferred
  • any static sites or subscriptions that need action first
  • order IDs if the request relates to billing records

For security, support may ask for additional verification before acting on the request.

Response timing

The Privacy Policy states that personal-data deletion requests are responded to within 7 days. Full account closure can take longer if active domains, paid services, unpaid orders, disputes, or legal retention rules need to be resolved first.
