Registrant contacts

Understand how registrant contacts are used for .ch and .li domain orders at YWT.

Registrant contacts

When you register or transfer a domain, the registry requires contact information for the registrant. YWT stores registrant contacts on your account and uses them during checkout.

What contacts are used for

Every domain registration requires a registrant contact:

  • Registrant — The legal owner of the domain. This is the person or organisation responsible for the domain name. For .ch and .li domains, the registrant information is submitted to SWITCH (the registry operator).

YWT may also store billing contact details for payment and invoicing. Billing details are separate from the domain registrant contact.

Why accurate contact information matters

SWITCH, the registry for .ch and .li domains, requires accurate and up-to-date registrant information. Providing false or incomplete data can result in your domain being suspended or even deleted by the registry. Always make sure your contact details are correct.

Accurate contact information also ensures:

  • You receive important registry communications about your domain.
  • Ownership disputes can be resolved correctly.
  • Registry and support checks can be handled more smoothly when the legal contact data is accurate.

When contacts are created

YWT does not currently expose a standalone contacts page in the account sidebar. Registrant contacts are created or selected inside checkout:

Start a domain order

Search for a domain, add it to your cart, and continue through checkout.

Create a registrant contact if needed

If your account has no registrant contact yet, checkout asks you to create one before the order review step.

Fill in the required details

Provide the required information:

  • Full name (or organisation name)
  • Street address
  • City, postal code, and country
  • Email address
  • Phone number

Some fields may be optional depending on the TLD, but it is best to fill in everything for completeness.

Continue to order review

After the registrant contact is saved, it can be used for the current domain order.

Choosing a registrant contact

If your account already has registrant contacts, checkout shows the current default contact and lets you select another one. It also provides an option to add a new registrant contact from the order review flow.

Changing your account display name or recovery email does not change domain registrant data. Treat registry contact details as separate legal data for the domain.

Updating existing registrant data

Editing the registrant contact on an existing domain is not yet available as a self-service option. If a registered domain needs corrected registrant details, contact YWT support so the change can be handled safely with the registry.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use one contact for all my domains? Yes. Many users use one registrant contact for all their domains.

What if my address or phone number changes? Contact YWT support before the old information becomes a problem for registry communications or ownership verification.

Is my contact information publicly visible? For .ch and .li domains, the registry (SWITCH) determines what information is shown in WHOIS results. See WHOIS lookup for details on privacy policies.
