This page answers the most common questions about YWT. If your question is not covered here, contact YWT support.
What TLDs does YWT support?
YWT specializes in Swiss domain extensions. You can register and manage .ch and .li domains. These are the country-code TLDs for Switzerland and Liechtenstein, respectively, both administered by the SWITCH registry.
YWT does not currently support generic TLDs (like .com, .org, .net) or other country-code TLDs. If you need a domain outside .ch and .li, you will need to use a different registrar for that domain while still being able to manage your Swiss domains at YWT.
How long do domain transfers take?
.ch and .li domains typically transfer within minutes to a few hours once the registry accepts a valid AuthCode. The most common cause of delays is an invalid AuthCode or a transfer-blocking status at the current registrar.
Check your inbox (including spam) and act on any transfer approval requests from your current registrar. For full transfer instructions, see Transfer a domain to YWT.
Can I use external nameservers?
Yes. While YWT provides nameservers and a built-in DNS manager, you are free to use any external nameserver provider (such as Cloudflare, AWS Route 53, or Google Cloud DNS). To do this, go to your domain settings in your YWT account and update the nameservers to the ones provided by your external DNS service.
Keep in mind that when you use external nameservers, the YWT DNS manager will no longer control your domain's DNS records. You will need to manage all records at your external provider.
Is DNSSEC set up automatically?
No. DNSSEC is not enabled by default when you register or transfer a domain. You can enable DNSSEC manually from your domain's settings page in your YWT account.
When you enable DNSSEC, YWT handles the zone signing and publishes the necessary DS records to the registry. For more details, see DNSSEC.
While DNSSEC adds an extra layer of security by protecting against DNS spoofing, it requires careful management. If you switch nameservers or make certain DNS changes, you may need to update or re-enable DNSSEC to avoid resolution failures.
What payment methods are accepted?
YWT shows the currently available payment methods during checkout. Saved payment methods are managed from your account billing settings where supported. All prices are listed in Swiss Francs (CHF).
How do static hosting subscriptions work?
Static hosting plans use monthly or yearly subscription billing. Paid plan purchases create an order; after payment, the subscription unlocks the paid plan limits.
Upgrades are charged with a prorated order for the remaining period and apply after payment. Downgrades are scheduled for the end of the current billing period and require your current usage to fit within the target plan. Cancellation also takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How do I cancel a domain?
If you no longer need a domain, you have two options:

Let it expire. Disable auto-renew in your domain settings and the domain will not be renewed at the end of its current registration period. After expiration, the registry may move it through recovery and release states before it becomes available for anyone to register again.

Contact support for exceptional cases. Early domain removal is not available as a self-service option. Registration fees are generally not refundable because the registry action is processed immediately.
Domain loss can become irreversible once the registry releases the domain. Make sure you have migrated any services (website, email, etc.) away from the domain before letting it expire. Once a domain is deleted and released, there is no guarantee you can re-register it.

What happens when a domain expires?
When a domain expires, YWT starts expiry handling and the registry may move the domain through recovery and release states:
- Expired: The domain may stop resolving and services such as websites or email can go offline.
- Recovery: Recovery may still be possible depending on registry state, timing, and policy.
- Pending delete/release: The domain may be queued for deletion and eventually become available for public registration.
To avoid this, enable auto-renew in your domain settings. YWT will attempt to renew the domain automatically before it expires. See your domain settings or the Billing section for more details.
Can I host dynamic sites on YWT?
No. YWT hosting is a static hosting platform. It serves HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, and other static files. It does not support server-side languages (PHP, Python, Node.js, Ruby, etc.), databases, or server-side rendering.
If you need dynamic functionality, you have several options:
- Client-side JavaScript: Use JavaScript in the browser to call external APIs, build single-page applications (SPAs), or add interactivity. Static site generators like Hugo, Astro, Next.js (static export), and Eleventy produce static files that work perfectly on YWT hosting.
- External hosting: Use a platform like Vercel, Netlify, Railway, or a traditional web host for your dynamic site, and point your YWT domain to it. See Use a YWT domain with an external host.
- Serverless functions: Combine YWT static hosting for your frontend with a serverless backend (AWS Lambda, Cloudflare Workers, etc.) for dynamic functionality.
Is there an API?
YWT does not currently offer a public API. All domain registration, DNS management, hosting, and account operations are performed through the web interface.

Can I register a domain without hosting it at YWT?
Yes. Domain registration and hosting are completely independent. You can register a domain at YWT and:
- Point it to any external hosting provider using DNS records.
- Use external nameservers entirely.
- Simply park the domain without connecting it to any website.

How do I update my WHOIS contact information?
Editing the registrant on an existing domain is not yet available as a self-service option. Contact YWT support if the legal registrant details for a domain need to be corrected.

Does YWT provide email hosting?
No. YWT is a domain registrar and static hosting provider. It does not offer email mailboxes or email hosting.
However, you can use any external email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, ProtonMail, etc.) with your YWT domain by configuring the appropriate MX, SPF, and DKIM DNS records. See Set up email for your domain for detailed instructions.
What happens if I lose access to my account?
If you cannot log in, use the password reset flow on the login page. A reset link will be sent to your registered email address.
If you no longer have access to your registered email, contact YWT support with proof of identity and domain ownership. Account recovery for security reasons may require additional verification steps.
Are there any hidden fees?
YWT shows the full price for domain registration, transfer, renewal, and static hosting plan changes before checkout payment. There are no hidden fees for DNS management or WHOIS privacy.
Some services that may incur additional costs:
- Domain recovery after expiration can carry a higher fee than a standard renewal.
- Future premium features, if introduced, will be clearly priced.
Where is YWT infrastructure located?
YWT uses European infrastructure for the app, router, DNS, and storage layers. The exact runtime placement can vary by service and environment, so the public docs do not promise a single server location.
How do I contact support?
